College HC vacancies are filling up

Looks like Matt Campbell to Penn St.

Good save for them honestly, if true.

Yeah, assuming the deal gets worked out, this is a nice hire for them.

A great move. I thought we’d end up with Terry Smith for a season, which was depressing. This is a Campbell I would have taken for the Lions back when(thankfully we got the other one)

Wasn’t this one rumored to be in the running for the job that Dan got?

Correct

Penn State lucky they got their 9th choice when it should have been their 1st. At the end of the day the don’t ask how many you won by, they just ask how many you won

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Pat Fitzgerald spoke with eight schools about potentially coaching their football teams, looking for the best place to resume his career, before choosing Michigan State.

The former Northwestern coach and All-American linebacker signed an incentive-laden, five-year, $30 million contract to lead the Spartans back to relevance.

ā€œIt was almost a no-brainer for me when the opportunity was presented,ā€ the 51-year-old Fitzgerald said Tuesday.

Fitzgerald will make $5 million guaranteed in his first year and will be paid at least $500,000 more in each of the following four seasons. If he helps Michigan State win seven games in any of his first three seasons, an extra year and $500,000 will be added to his contract.

If the Spartans simply win six games or more in the regular season, he will earn a $500,000 bonus; seven wins would give him an additional $1 million and an eight-win season would trigger a $1.5 million bonus.

Fitzgerald lost his job at Northwestern in July 2023, after a 17-year run at his alma mater, due to a hazing scandal.

ā€œFitzgerald sued the school for $130 million for wrongful termination and reached a settlement in August after the school said ā€œthere was no direct evidence that Coach Fitzgerald was aware of the hazing,ā€ in its investigation.ā€

I think Michigan State got themselves a very good coach. Fitzgerald is a proven coach. He turned down the Michigan job when they hired Brady Hoke to stay at Northwestern. He steps into this role where the expectations aren’t as high immediately. He has advantages now in the portal and recruiting that he didn’t have at Northwestern. I like his odds. The Big Ten just got a lot better.

Toledo is my G5 team due to my grandparents living there and that being where my dad is from. Hate that they’re losing Candle.

And the domino effect keeps going. One year at WSU and leaves the team before the bowl game.

Penn st takes ISU coach

ISU takes WSU coach

WSU takes TBD coach

And so on

I guess. They basically got a James Franklin level coach. Probably superior from a player development and in game strategy point of view but a tick down from a roster management perspective.

So now he’s a Yankee Candle.

He can win big games. That’s what separates him, I think, to Penn State. If ISU was in a big game, I never bet against him with the upset. No one says that about Franklin.

That hire took like 10 minutes. Jamie Pollard, the ISU AD, was ready and pulled the trigger. For Rogers, probably not a lot of fallout for players transferring to PSU because they are a more talented team. Could be some movement to other schools but I look for more continuity than most teams that lost their HC.
