The other issue is any good pitcher can’t wait to leave and good luck signing a decent pitcher in free agency. It’s career suicide. They have to massively overpay for mid level pitchers looking for a payday.
Thinking back, I can’t think of a single great pitcher they’ve had in 30 years. They’ve had good pitchers with great seasons, but no one comes to mind who put together a string of good-great years
