Draft talk 2025/2026

Depends on free agency, really. But I think I’d at least give him the chance to fail at right tackle.

It’s too high.

I don’t think it’s insane to think he might go in the first hit that is a supply issue rather than him being a “true first round prospect”.

 That we do.

I’m always interested in watching guys I don’t really know much about, and at least at RB you can just dig into the highlights to see if you need to go any further.

I was high on Roush than consensus a couple of months back, but he’s really gained a head of steam at this point and I have a hunch he may pass my ranking by. I like him quite a bit, but I DO think his blocking reputation is a little exaggerated. He’s good, but he’s no Tip Reimann for instance. People are just so desperate for TEs who can block.

Are there any good OT starters with arms that short?

Late 1st is about where I’ve been guessing he’ll end up.

That said, I did not see that sort of testing coming. So maybe he’s a different player at in that mid-250s range? By the eye test I thought he was about ten pounds heavier, though maybe it was just those braces making him look bigger.

Braden Smith!

I think his arms will probably be just shy of 33 inches at his pro day and everyone will think it’s suddenly fine. It’s not, those short arms were evident on his tape, but is he long enough to hold up? TBD I suppose.

Quoting myself now - but I admit this doesn’t sound like a glowing recommendation!

My main issue with him is sort of that rounded top of production. He emerges in 2023 and despite playing in a pretty bad conference :face_with_tongue: he sort of plateaus in terms of traditional statistics. I don’t have the more advanced metrics year by year. But without that I’m really skeptical of that suddenly turning into elite NFL pass rushing Edge.

There are of course plenty of guys that are better pros than collegians but I gun to my head I don’t think his pass rush upside is above and beyond the Derrick Moore or perhaps even Zion Young who has that arrow up element throughout his production profile.

He still hasn’t played a ton of reps, surprisingly, they mentioned that in the pod. Far fewer than I thought. He wasn’t actually a starter in 2023, which makes those numbers even more impressive. 2024 was a step back statistically as he learned what it took to be an every down player, then you get 2025. I think it’s a pretty explainable profile.

Zierlein comps him to Josh Sweat, and that’s one of his better ones.

Okay. So his 2025 pass rush production was resurgent from a down 2024 but behind his 2023 from a per snap basis? It’s not the end all be all but I just expect Big XII first round Edges to be more statistically dominant and prefer the up and to the right production profile.

Right, that sums it up pretty well.

I see a real sleeper as a long term center prospect in Dillon Wade from Auburn. He has been a 4 year starter at OG. I think they kept him at OG because they had Lew at C. Wade can really attack at the 2nd level and is excellent at pulling on outside runs. He has some work to do on his anchor in pass sets but like a lot of centers in 3 years he could be a good one and everyone will say where in the hell did he come from.

I’ll have to take a deeper look, I admit I’ve only given him a cursory watch so far. Did he replace Lew this year after he got hurt?

Honestly the only reason I noticed him is because I was watching Lew. After Lew went out I did not pay attention to their O line. I think Wade passes the physical test but as you know the center position is just as much mental make up.

No he did not. They used a 17 year old true freshman.

:eyes: Yowza that kid must be something else. Seems like a pretty wild decision honestly, if Wade was right there. Unless they know something about his mental makeup we don’t, I suppose. Or if the kid was preternaturally gifted.

Oh I don’t know anything about him. I guess he is some phenom that is their future C. He was the youngest player to play a game in the SEC. Maybe @CuriousHusker might know something.

Kail Ellis? I know nothing about him. Golesh brought his Center with him so if we hear from him again it will be in the future. Looks like he has to add mass so this may be a godsend.

Well that’s true even if he sticks around

Landon might just be a bit piece but the ability to jump from one gap to another in a blink is rare and should play in pass rush situations.

That’s clearly been a ~thing~ for brad with DT. That lateral agility.
