Dusty May leaves Michigan to take the Dallas Mavericks HC job

Ecxtacty and guess what uofm isnt doing anything wrong. The got some big boosters including portnoy.

Now hire Josh Schertz. A slam dunk hire!

UM will get another Natty.

However, Warde will get lazy again and go in house with Boynton.

Hopefully that means just interim. Better not settle on that guy (1 winning season in 7 years) without trying to get Schertz or Donovan or McCasland! F u Warde you big fat lazy slob if you do!

It’s about being a pain in the ass when a “student” leaves after one year going elsewhere for the money. If you have a better opportunity then alleviate yourself of the hassle. You can’t build a cohesive team that way IMO. It doesn’t matter if you have the money or not. I’m old school and prefer a team that is together for a few years. I don’t watch anymore because of it. YMMV.

Dusty May = Legend

Boynton is a great guy, awesome recruiter (got Cade to Oklahoma State ffs), and really easy to root for, but… he can’t coach. I wanted it to work out so bad for him in Stillwater for the first 3 reasons, but he’s just not very good at it.

I suspect this is mostly a move to stop the bleeding and keep the recruits. Frankly the move might be to have Boynton step in now then let the Israeli guy take over (if he’s still coming). That guy’s won everywhere he’s been

Good for Dusty. Getting the opportunity to coach in the NBA is a great opportunity for him.

I do believe Dusty’s comments after winning the title played a role especially after watching the Knicks post title celebration.

He had no time to enjoy the accomplishment at UM as the portal opened and he had to get transfers, save his own players from transferring at the same time.
Knicks have been on a week long celebration.

All the best to him, appreciate the last two seasons to put it mildly.

My concern about Boynton, besides his limited success at OSU, is that he was apparently designated as Mays “defensive coordinator”. So while I love a focused effort on defense, if that’s his primary skill set and he can’t really manage the X’s and O’s of offensive execution this is not going to turn out well.

No player with NBA aspirations is going to a team that will showcase their defensive prowess.

Yea, I think UM would be a desirable place for some big name options with their showing the willingness and support for NIL and bball. I truly think it’s interim to hold it together as you say. Larger search ongoing.

Does anyone know if this announcement of Boynton as “interim” coach triggers the 15 day transfer rule for currently rostered players? The rule apparently states that the 15 day window begins 5 days after the new head coach is announced. I imagine this has to count as an official announcement. So over the next 3 weeks we should see what players decide to leave.

But then what happens if they follow that up with a new permanent hire after that? Do the players get another 15 day window to decide if they want to transfer?

Seems they probably would.

I thought the trigger was when the current coach left, not when new coach is hired. Which is why I thought they named Boynton the interim coach to help with the transfers and possibly to keep him from following Dusty.

I’d have to look it up again. Pretty certain I read this morning that it’s when the new head coach is hired.

per below it’s when the full time coach is hired.

3. Time to fend off the circling sharks

The NCAA transfer portal will open five days after a new full-time head coach is hired and remain so for 15 days. But, let’s be honest, it’s open now. If you don’t think coaches from other programs were calling agents of Michigan’s players, then you’re being naive.

I’m saying they strive to get there not that they’ll be good

Its 15 days and 30 days after a coach. Who the f knows these. College sports is like herpes it sucks when you have, but once you dont its all free. Im sure a new rule will happen
