Here’s where I’m at with Goff

Dude, you’re talking like the GB game didn’t happen where you were “over Goff”. Campbell was a moron and Goff had proven he couldn’t be the guy just a few weeks ago, in a game that we ended up winning.

Y’all need to sheath your swords. We’ve all been on the edge at one time or another AND even the OC admits that opposing defenses had gotten into the QB’s head.

Goff is a reclamation project that has looked like an utter failure at times. He’s also looked like a franchise QB at times.

I like Goff, always have. Is he the best QB in the league definitely not, but he is far from the worse. I think the Lions can go all the way with him, the main reason is the way this team is being built. I also think the 2 reasons he was traded from LA was a decline in the running game and a rift with McVay. I have always thought if he didn’t want to pipe Mcvay’s GF he would still be there.

Nate,

You’re ready to buy in on Goff if he wins in New York? He already beat the Giants in NY.

My opinion is that some keep moving the goal posts on what they want to see from Goff.

If there is a QB better than Goff than draft him—but I don’t think there is. Goff is 7th in QBR and 10th in rating. He oversees one of the best offenses in the NFL. And we want to say, he’s not good enough??!! Let’s derail the rebuild by going after the shiny object. I’m ok with drafting a QB, but certainly not in the first 3 rounds.

The thing about getting another qb is that this is most likely our window to get one without giving up the farm to do it. I mean we can have the debates about whether these prospects qualify for franchise QBs or not. I’m just pointing out that the window is now, and if that is the case we need to either strike now or push that window back by collecting picks for future drafts.

Yeah, as much as I get the “there are only 32 of these jobs!” position, if he comes out next year he’s gonna go to some disaster of a franchise like Houston where he will be in a terrible position.

If he keeps succeeding here, he can be on the top of the short list for a better landing spot with a team that isn’t in complete free fall.

Campbell was a moron for much of the year. He’s cut down on moronic decisions. The game looked too big for him for a while. I’m team Campbell again. I was totally over Goff for at least part of that game. Luckily for us Erin had a worse game

So? They are not ‘knowing’!

Not a Goff fan, nor a hater. He was a throw-in on the Stafford deal because of contract. With that being said, there are four or five bigger issues than him.

Brandon Staley had the same resume. Never a HC at any level and only a single year as a coordinator yet he was able to land the Chargers job after the Rams finished with the #1 defense.

Most teams are looking for that next young great mind especially offensively so I wouldn’t bank on Johnson being around for long.

So who’s better than Goff. Here’s my list also considering age.

Tua—Miami
Hurts—Philly
Mahomes—KC
Burrow—Cinci
Allen—Buffalo
Prescott—Dallas
Jackson—Bal
Herbert—LAC

Guys that I drop because of their age:

Garopolo (31)
Rodgers (39)

That makes Goff a top ten QB. He’s a year younger than Prescott and a year older than Mahomes.

So, what then? Did he play DB?

He played better

Well, that he has.

Personally, I’m not giving anybody any grief over their opinion of Goff, one way or the other. There are varied opinions and I don’t blame anyone for taking a slower wait-and-see look. And since Houston has the top spot locked up in the draft, I don’t think we have to make a decision anyway.

I can absolutely agree that the Goff commentaries knocking the dude after his best game as a Lion are rather tone deaf. 8 consecutive scoring drives shouldn’t incite naysayers… not for a day or two anyway, sheesh.

hey this chit is what Goff can do with a healthy team.

Here’s where I am— at the beginning of the season I would have definitely traded Goff for a 1st round pick. Now I wouldn’t start the conversation unless the offer included 2 firsts. Goff is approaching top 10 QB level.

I don’t see these guys lasting too long in the league. They’re always hurt. Their teams can’t depend on them.

The Lions could be a free agent destination

Here’s the only section where I’ll speculate. The culture stuff I just laid out is very visual to everyone else around the league. It’s not a stretch to think that there are players out there that look at the Lions and their culture and think, “I want to be a part of that.” Every player the Lions signed this past offseason mentioned that the team’s culture was a big part of the reason they chose to come to Detroit. Now the Lions don’t only have the culture: they have the success and potentially some serious cap space. One fish seems to already have the Lions on his radar. Keep in mind that could mean nothing and this one will probably never happen for reason that the Lions can’t control.

I know this has been talked about before, but apparantly Lamar liked a post about the Lions beating Jacksonville, so now it is being talked about again. I personally would have been all over this a month ago if it was truly an option, but I’m not so sure anymore. I do 100% believe Lamar is a better player than Goff, but the difference is not big enough to make the move, IMO. We would likely be giving up both our 1st round picks this year, and a 1st next year as the starting point. Plus a huge new contract for a guy who hasn’t won a big game or has trouble staying healthy.

I’d rather roll with Goff at this point and keep all the picks.

I think this is a good list. I think you could definitely say Geno has been better this year, and you could say Cousins has been better over his career while being worse this year. But then there is another group of players who are about equal with Goff which probably has 4 or 5 names in it.
