We’ve hardly heard anything about him. I wonder what’s going on. There’s been an unusual amount of silence and lack of coverage (which probably stems from the fact Branch & Kerby are playing so well).
At the end of last season, IM was one of the 5 best safeties in the NFL.
IM definitely showed an aptitude at blitzing from the safety position. Over the last several games of last season, he was like the Dre Bly of safeties–PLAYMAKER.
There’s an awful lot of mythmaking around this guy, we tend to talk about him like he’s been starting and making plays at safety for years. Yes, he was sensational for eight games at the end of last season (5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 2 INTs), but the rest of the time he’s done nothing. Who’s to say that purple patch last season wasn’t more like a James Houston hot streak than a Derrick Barnes style full on break out? Certainly those sack numbers aren’t sustainable from the safety position, and the picks are probably overemphasized because one of them won us the division.
Branch and Kerby are well established as the starting safetys, Iffy already transitioned from CB to S, and as far as I know he’s never played or practiced at NB. If he’s healthy he’s a nice backup at S, and we should be able to re-sign him pretty cheaply, but he’s not a starter when everyone is available.
PFF has him ranked as the 6th best CB in run coverage
But yeah that’s what I was saying when we signed him … he’s like Mike Hughes he’s better outside just because he’s smaller doesn’t mean he’s a great nickel CB
Tough scrappy outside CB… I hope Rakedtraw takes his job soon
Amik would be the most perfect dime back/ST guy you could ask for
Count me as an iffy fan. When he’s active, he’s shown some real play-making ability. Hopefully he can stay healthy. With him, BB, and Joseph, that has to be the best safety trio in the league.
Iffy is the best blitzer of anyone in the back 7, he would help generate pressure. He should NOT be in coverage if at all possible, I want him playing a hybrid LBer role.
It’s pretty understandable that people got excited about a sensational, and it was sensational, 8 game stretch in the midst of a playoff run from a young player with a ton of tools, he was looking like Kyle Hamilton out there at times. It could be a fluke but man was he good so some excitement was certainly warranted.
Unfortunately his biggest issue since he’s been in the league is injury and it bit him again so we’ll see how he bounces back. I think they might well need him long term as I think Kerby will be a cap casualty because you can’t keep everybody.
