Lets be realistic here. This was a desperate win now move for the Bears and they clearly overpaid. Are they better today? Clearly they are and this significantly upgrades their defense.
Does this have a significant impact on their future team building? 100% it does. They are losing two 1st round picks on cost controlled contracts for a highly paid 29 year old DT. When those players would be theoretically entering their prime, Simmons will likely be on the decline.
They also will have to make Caleb the highest paid QB in the NFL, if not this offseason, definitely the next.
The best part is that Caleb probably wants his extension ASAP after this season… because he needs to get security with that career scare earlier this season.
Jokes aside, Caleb will likely get paid in the next 10 months… because he is currently only due to get $6 million in cash for 2027.
A $50 million SB will up his cap hit by about $10 million for 2027 even when prorated over 5 years.
Then his “cheap years” are done.
Keep spending like drunk sailors Bears!!!
You want nothing to do with Simmons. There’s a reason he is on his way out, I am not convinced he wants to play football. He always has something wrong with him, even when doctors cannot find anything.
When Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are kicking you out of a meeting, you are a problem.
Me too. Yet I’m inured to the fickle ways of the Fame Monster, and I understand that I’ll always be misunderstood, confined, and caricatured through one of my, um, memorable toes. Like Lady Gaga, I’ve made my bag, so the fungus paparazzi are just, well, footnotes in an otherwise pleasant life.
The casual Bear fan maybe. A lot of Den member like Bear fans understands the ramifications of a move like this. Franchise altering move? What do you mean exactly? Does this mean we are playing for 2nd place and a WC? Because i highly doubt that.
