Kenny Golladay update

Exactly. I thought Golladay was a good player for us and deserved a market value contract. But I took a lot of heat from 2 posters when I said he wasnt worth the 20 mill per season he was demanding, especially considering the time he missed for a non-contact injury. He also needed a guy like Stafford to throw it in to tight coverage every time, and that was no longer going to be an option in Detroit.

Gettleman was an abomination as a GM, so it makes sense as to why nobody else in the league pegged KG anywhere near the value of the contract he got. But good for Golladay … he got himself paid, and we got a nice 3rd round offset in the comp pick equation, and avoided an overpriced WR.

I think Kenny G CAN get separation after the catch IF /only if , the conditions are just set perfect for him…otherwise? not so much.

Kenny G is not that type of WR. He’s one that uses his physical gifts to win battles. The same as guys like Dez Bryant, Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson.

He was miles ahead of everyone else. Bill Evans credits Miles for bringing Coltrane along so that he could find his sound.

"I don’t think we would have had Coltrane or known Coltrane’s potential or the great contributions that he’s made, except for Miles and Miles’ belief in his potential. Because at the beginning — then, I was around when the group started — most people wondered why Miles had Coltrane in the group. He was more or less withdrawn, plus sort of off to the side of the bandstand, sort of half, not fumbling exactly, but just sort of searching. And, but Miles really knew, somehow, the depth and the potential development that Coltrane had coming, and just gave him all the room, just gave him all the room, man. And that’s the genius of his leadership in that he doesn’t say very much, and he gets things done like that, he allows, puts certain talents together and allows them to work on each other and work on the music, and somehow Miles will occasionally just give you one little clue. Like he might come over to the piano and say, “Right here, I want this sound.”

Hey who wants to listen to Kenny G when you have…SERGIO!

I think most were ready to move on
Honestly, didn’t want him around anymore at any FA $ level
Too banged up and seemly not an attitude to keep here (a bit of speculation)

I liked KG until his last year with us where i felt he was milking his injury.

Glad he’s gone and glad he’s sucking.

He’s never separated well. He’s not a quality route runner who’s going to create a ton of separation. That’s not who he is. Obviously this writer doesn’t know that. He’s a jump ball specialist who is good at boxing out defenders. That’s how he wins and he’s very good at it but he needs a QB who is willing to throw it up in those situations.

Yep. He quit on the team for personal/business reasons, and was rewarded for it. That seems to have reinforced the behavior because it has carried over to New York. Its interesting to see because Kenny was willing to put his body on the line more than most. But he has gotten to the point that you will only get that effort if the team, QB and situation is right. He won’t do it as standard practice anymore.

This is an unfortunate “issue” that plagues bad teams and creates a separation point between bad teams and good teams. Bad teams can’t get all of what Kenny offers at top of the market money but someone like Green Bay can pick him up for a small 1 year deal and get all he’s got.

we all knew he was milking the hammy injury his last year with the Lions. He didn’t want to risk his FA payday. Well he got his payday and seems to be coasting now. It also doesn’t help that he’s a deep route guy and the Giants had a terrible Oline. And apparently Evan Neal is struggling in camp. But then we heard the same from Sewell last year

Jones is an intriguing QB. He has legs and when throwing with confidence he has the arm and accuracy to throw deep. There’s no reason he and Golliday can’t get some chemistry going unless Golliday has completely checked out

But why listen to Sergio when you have the Saxsquatch??

If the Giants ever release Jones I’m hoping Detroit kicks the tires on him. We definitely need more talent at backup quarterback.

I watched the Giants game today… and KG looks terrible.

He had 3 targets.

1st… was a go route with fairly free release… and he couldn’t get behind the CB at all. The CB was 30yo journeyman Terrance Mitchell.

2nd… near goal line… he was outside WR on a trips side. He ran a slant in behind the other 2 WRs to use them as a little pick. He came out of his break slow and didn’t seem ready for the ball. He dropped it.

3… KG ran a shallow crosser and made a catch as Daniel Jones escaped to the right and hit him with a short pass. KG was
moving slow again… and Malcolm Butler closed on him quick and tackled him as soon as the ball arrived.

I focused on him on other plays as well… and he was covered like blanket. He had zero burst.

It just shows how important it is to sign players that fit your scheme and personal. That’s why I love the no turds approach this lions team takes. A pro bowl player has little value if they don’t care and just want to get paid. Jamie Collins showed us that.

Can’t say Stafford didn’t elevate his play.

i think he’s also the kind of turd who got paid and got lazy

I don’t think he’s a natural turd. One of the things Quinn said he loved about him was that he was self made and had to WORK his way to the top. Everything we heard about him before he estalished himself…and everything we saw before he established himself…backs that up. But I do think he’s a mixed up kid who has the wrong people in his ear. And when those people told him to quit on the Lions to save his body, he listened. So when the Giants gave him a golden bag of cash for making that decision…it validated that approach. Now he’s in an F’d up QB situation and he’s checking out. He’s pulling a straight up Santonio Holmes right now.

I agree. He might be an unnatural turd. His last season with the Lions didn’t impress me. He milked that hammy injury so he wouldn’t underperform going into a contract year

I always thought his personality was a bad fit in NY. He always struck me as a “small market” guy. While I suspect he might turn his career around in a market like Green Bay, I really don’t want to see it to test if I am right.

He also was one of the last to sign his rookie contract right after the draft. He’s all about the money. At one time, I didn’t mind that, and thought we found a gem. Now? Letting him go was a very very good move.
