Kevin O'Connell is the new favorite to win coach of the year

KOC has done a great job. Can’t overlook Dan Quinn either. First year with Wash, with a rookie qb and they are 10 and 5. Last year they won 4 games all season.

Dan and his coaching staff deserve the highest praise a coaching staff can possibly earn with the injuries they’ve endured. We are taking for granted how they’re where they are right now. What KOC has done with Darnold is impressive, but have we forgotten where Goff was when he arrived? If you want to credit KOC for his reclamation project, that’s cool, but give Dan his flowers as well.

Dan deserves it.
KOC, Quinn, McDermott, Tomlin… you can have a conversation about them, but the steady play while everyone is gunning for you, and while you’re playing defense with street free agents is commendable above anything KOC has done.

Some of you guys must be on crack. 13-2 with the backup QB. O’Connell deserves CoY if they keep it up. Lions ? I hope DC is a SB winning HC and one of the greatest motivators of our lifetime.

Let’s just give it to Eberflus so there can be no agreement at all.

Imho Dan doesn’t care nor need this award…. The dude is comfortable as he is …

It’s like participation awards…. :poop:

This… You can’t say Goff is better than Darnold then say Campbell is better than KOC… If Darnold is on that level, it’s bc of KOC, based solely off history. Dan took a former SB QB and has him playing at a SB level.

The injuries are a whole other argument… Everyone had Minny and Chicago in the basement of the division bc of their rosters and Minnesota has definitely overachieved based on that… Was the roster better than people here thought? Or did KOC bring out the best in them?

Honestly we have A LOT more talent overall than Minnesota does. Brad >>>>>>>>>>> Kwesi. Dan and AG have worked miracles with all of our injuries, but KOC has worked miracles with their lesser talent. And honestly, losing your starting QB before the season has historically been a recipe for 5-12. I hope Dan wins it and he’s definitely deserving, but so is KOC and I couldn’t complain too much about if he won.

It’s coach of the year, not coach of the last 4 years. If it was coach of the last 4 years then no one else is even close to Dan Campbell, but if you look at where the Vikings were last season, and where they are right now, and compared to where we were last season and where we are right now, O’Connell has gotten a bigger jump forward out of his team than Campbell.

KOC gets my vote for COTY

COTY seems like an award given to a coach whose team did more than expected and then subsequentially turded the bed the next season.

After the Lions win the SB, Campbell will get a statue downtown!

That’s exactly what it is. It’s why Andy Reid has only won it once and that was back in 2002 with Philly. Now he gets the “You’re supposed to be good” treatment every year. That’s exactly what will happen to Dan this year. If there was a year for MCDC to win it, it was last year. From “expected to compete for division” to “NFC Championship Game”.

Dan’s window is closed, for now. And good for KOC. Hate the Vikings but what he has done has been impressive. As well as shot out to Dan Quinn.

Problem is to NFC Championship game didn’t take part in voting as was decided before that and it doesn’t play a role (post season). They were expected to compete and did. So when was his real window to win it?

I am not arguing that KOC does not deserve it. But Dan probably would have been 2 seasons ago if they got in playoffs as wild card…thanks refs for that screw job in Rams vs Seahawks

I guess it is better to be too good and always winning then get that award.

So wait all you KOC voters.
If Detroit wins against SF while Minn loses to GB, then Det finishes by sweeping Minn and the entire division, you’re STILL giving COTY to KOC??

I think you can make a legitimate case for either of them to win the award. Not gonna gripe either way.

I think this team would almost prefer to not win these awards. It fuels their desire to earn respect.

Yeah.

Lions go from 12-5 to 15-2.

Vikings go from 7-10 to 13-4 with Sam Darnold at QB.

What the Lions have done is impressive, but what the Vikings have done was outright inconceivable at the beginning of the season. It’s a bigger win improvement, and done with a QB who’s career passer rating was barely 80 with 63 TDs to 56 INTs.

It’s not a .500 roster. The preseason predictions were based on not knowing the security at qb. They have a very good OL, DL, wr core and a aging but good secondary. KOC is very worthy of the award and they “smash their predictions” but we exceeded as well. 11 straight wins, a possible 15 win season, a possible top 5 alltime offense, 19 plus on IR, were not predicted. Whatever advantage KOC gained as you say is negated by 1) the injuries we have overcame 2) the head to head.
