There is a possibility this team isnt a top 10 worst in the league…but, I faith in how bad our LB’s are, and how much time it will take the rest of the D to adjust/learn the new system (especially with the rookies/young guys), that next season the D alone will keep us below .500…but who knows, maybe they’ll surprise everybody and be playing meaningful games in Dec.
If the Lions can dominate the Lion of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, they are going to win a lot of close games.
The offense is going to keep the ball a long time, especially with Swift and Hockenson catching short passes to extend drives.
I was so sick and tired of all the 3 and outs and short drives last season…that really hurt a bad defense even more.
Longer drives will put more pressure on the other team’s defense and less on the Lions D.
I was thinking the Texans may be one of the only other teams looking to draft a top QB next year…and thats pending that the Lions WILL even be looking for a QB…who knows, Goff and this offense could look good and be projecting upwards under him, there may not be a reason to draft a QB with the 1st rd pick in 2022.
Teams that will need QBs next season: Texans, Steelers, Broncos, Football Team, Eagles, Saints, Panthers will all probably be in the QB market.
Darnold and Hurts are going to be terrible this season.
Other teams that might be in the QB market: Dolphins, Raiders, Giants, Bucs, Falcons, Packers, Seahawks.
If Rodgers, Brady, and Wilson leave their teams, the will probably need to upgrade. Love is a huge question mark.
Looking at the 2021 schedule…it’s pretty brutal…that run through the NFC West and AFC North is gonna be tooouugh. I’m def leaning towards 5 wins or less at this point…but, thats why they play the games.
Looking like 2-15 or 3-14.

I agree dominating the LOS, especially on D, will help the back 7 do their jobs…but this DL is pretty much the same guys who couldnt do jack last year, and a couple rookies who probably need a season to develop…I’d be shocked if they take a big step forward in 2021 given their current state.

Patricia wanted his defensive players to be non-disruptive and slow. He didn’t want his defense to get any pressure on the other team’s QB. Just kind of stand there and hope the other team messed up.
I don’t see the new regime wanting that same philosophy.
From the scouting report, it also sounds like these guys are good at tackling, another thing that Patricia did not value.

The team is rebuilding, they still have alot of holes…of course they’re gonna show up an play/try to win, but this is what a rebuild is…it tends to take a couple seasons to transition from the old to the new. Imo, the new regime isnt going to try to suck, but they know the reality of the situation…Bob and Matty P left this team a dumpster fire that more than likely isnt a single off-season fix.
They aren’t going to be world beaters, but it’s not like 31 other NFL teams are going to be lights out.
Other than WR, the team didn’t get markedly worse at any position.
The Oline and Dline are improved, the secondary can’t be any worse than last year, the LBers are the same, and the coaching will be a hell of a lot better.
Again, I agree, but just taking a longview that this D/new scheme/new rookies, arent going to come out of the gates and dominate…is it possible? Sure, and I’d love it…but I wont be getting pissed and throwing bricks at my tv if/when the D has growing pains in 2021.

@espnbaby I’m with you on the “we need a dual threat QB” thing, but what are you on when you make this claim?
A 40 something QB who can’t move at all won the super bowl last year…
