Only thing I can think of (somebody reality check my bullshit if I’m out in left field)–any chance they are rolling with less than 53 (maybe a claim or two) knowing they have Alim/Paschal back at some point and avoiding guaranteed salaries for players they will most likely cut down the line? I think salaries are fully guaranteed if they’re on the Week 1 roster right? That’s the only thing that is coming to my mind.
Yeah, but you can still have 53 people on the roster for week 1, then release a couple of guys and bring in the other vets. You’d just cut the younger guys that you know you can get through, like a Cooper.
I get that, but just wondering if it’s a money move by the Lions to avoid paying a fully guaranteed salary to players they most likely cut down the line. But again, I’m just throwing darts at a board.
