Interesting that Stafford was one of the best at selling play action, on a team with no running game no less, and that the Rams have also cut down on play action. Anyway, nobody should be more prepared than Goff to play it. “From 2017-2020, Los Angeles ran play-action on 32% of their dropbacks, which was the most in the NFL, per Next Gen Stats.”
Good post and I don’t really disagree , but some on here it’s all sunshine and rainbows. I mean your talking about the good and the bad. But many have a excuse, for everything and if you question the staff or Goff your not seeing the big picture crap.
I don’t carry the past into the present!
We won - my present reality- I’m happy
We are not making the playoffs - I’m still happy as this doesn’t validate me
We play this weekend! Makes me happy
Love validates me and my happiness not a football teams record….
But that me!!
Only the simple says “forgot” who ever said he forgot ? If you don’t think there was a difference in his approach this last game, then that’s on you. Some say it was all Reynolds but he had only 4 catches while St brown had 10 catches and a TD, Hutch had 4 catches and TD these guys have been here whole time. Jared went from throwing to the line of scrimmage, the easiest throws to actually looking like a legitimate NFL QB, maybe he was hurt, maybe he decided to say heck with a just go for it. Maybe Dan preaching to him got through. Maybe it was being sat for a week. IDK but his approach was very different and one WR didn’t make everyone else instantly better. There’s more to it then that.
Exactly. This isn’t college. You’re professional football players. If you can’t learn the offense, especially this one, then you don’t deserve to be on the team.
And who dictates the time line for this?
Fans like you who are showing total intolerance
Or
You know, those guys called coaches and this stuff is what they do in thier profession….
I know who I’m picking
You think whatever you want. If you’ve been with the team since training camp and you’re not a quarterback what’s the excuse not to know the offense?
What bullshit this is , some confuse being positive with being naive . Everyone I seen was very happy we won. They just haven’t forgot all the bad we have seen with one decent game.
Lol - I’ve seen players admit it took years to “get it” for some …. So demanding are you!

You don’t forget the past…
But, as too many do and it’s being done here, you let the past into the present and allow it to control you and your perception is slanted… it’s ok to let it go!
Wtf, dude it’s a message board you talk about the good and the bad, if there is more bad then good then there will be more negative talk. It’s reality, you call it being positive I call it being naive. You pat your self on the back all you want for being happy about losing. Some don’t like it as much. You act you are above other posters and you know there personal lives. Because they see problems with this team. I’m glad your life is so perfect and you see all sunshine and unicorns. But in the real world there good and bad.
I would have called it “the good, the bad, and the handsome,” but I can appreciate what they were going for here.
Goff got a 36 on the Wonderlic test (basically an IQ test). 20 is considered average. Max is 50 and extremely rare.
Other scores: Stafford @ 38. Aaron Rodgers 35. Brady 33. Mahomes 24. Wentz 40. Payton Manning 28.
Highest QB to start is Fitzpatrick at 48 out of 50 total.
That’s just test taking. Another aspect is interviews. You have to be quick on your feat and able to answer all kinds of questions rapid fire. No way he is rated and taken #1 overall if he can’t do interviews well.
I think where most fans can’t connect the dots is around how hard it is to process all of the things coming at a QB at once. It’s very taxing to understand ~15+ players and all the things they are doing in real-time. This is why Good coordinators know how to help their QB by mixing in simple pre-determined plays where they don’t have to think too much. Screens, hand-offs, outs are all plays that are easier on the QB and keep their mind fresh for a 3 hour battle.
When as a QB there are extra added issues like your lineman aren’t holding up, or your WRs are in the wrong spot, it throws you off and you hesitate. QBs are used to adjusting and can handle this here and there but over the course of the game that is taxing. The whole offense looked bad under Lynn but as Goff is always holding the ball, most fans will point at him first, second, and last.
Lastly, QBs are human beings that are traveling constantly and having to adapt to different opponents every single week. It’s easy to have a rough sleep in the hotel or be mentally exhausted hearing screaming fans for hours and you can’t tell the play to the guy 2 feet away from you or ask him to make an adjustment.
This isn’t an excuse or limited to Goff. ALL QBs have these same issues and struggles. Brady and Manning, the greatest to play this game of all time had bad games with struggles like these. It’s human.
The best QBs know how to create a routine that gives them consistency even when on the road. The best QBs now tricks to adjust and lift their team when things are out of sync. The best coaches know how to change just enough to help their team get through a slump.
I give Dan Credit for seeing how atrocious the offense was under Lynn and making a change. Complexity often exists because a coach doesn’t know how to effectively communicate. All these guys are professionals and have won a lot of games. Yet the WRs were running into each other and in the wrong spots. Dan is simplifying to get them working as one unit. It’s working the last 2 weeks. At least it gives the team some confidence and ability to work together and get some good film.
Are you sure about that? Not doubting you, but I’m assuming you have the data. I “thought” Lynn actually used quite a bit of motion with the Chargers, but can’t recall for sure. The most points we’ve put up in any game this year, was our first one against the 49ers. I don’t know about the “friction” rumors, but I think Lynn got a bit of a bad rap. DC has had one good offensive game and that was the last one. DC has Josh Reynolds, St. Brown without his head swimming and the rest. Lynn had his full compliment for like 5 minutes, the game he put up 33 points. Then he lost his #1, #2 and #3 WR, #2 TE and starting LT and C. That is a ton of upheaval to manage your way through early in the season. Reynolds is better than any WR Lynn ever had here and his impact has been very noticeable. I’ll put a 33 point output against the 49ers over a 29 point output against the Vikings down 5 starters on defense. Just saying.
So funny. During the last game, I was thinking to myself how much I loved all the PA passes we were calling.
I was just using the eye test, and I had no data backing it up. But it “felt” like we doing it more.
11th in motion, how ironikal
I act honestly and you can’t handle it but that’s ok
And if you act read and understood my post you’re find things I write like…
There are no perfect relationships as there are no perfect people. Can you see what I am in plying on here about myself?
Or ….
It’s ok to be no ok, but you’d better be working on it! Hmmm, try some reflecting on why I would post this - I’ll give you help: unity
Oh, lastly, I always speak about recovery and counseling …. I know I suck, but I also know who I belong to and who made me and my purpose.
If you can’t handle me telling you the truth…. Don’t read my posts….
And to finish: when “you” (which also could imply me but not in this post as I’m evaluating you not myself
) get offended - like complaining how you think I’m above all the other posters …. You see that from an internal perspective…. Not only are you reading others wrong, you are using internal ideas and feeling about yourself to conceive what you are incorrectly seeing in others
You are mirroring yourself and don’t even realize it
Love you still and always but… you need to self check this

#1-- The Lions may have been 11th on 9/22/21, but they are now 14th in motion at snap and 26th in total pre-snap motion as of 11/23/21.

#2-- Stats without context don’t tell the whole story.
The OP cited the tweet that mentions Goff is 22nd in pass attempts with pre-snap motion.
Therefore… if the Lions are 14th in motion at the snap, but only 22nd in pass attempts with motion… that means a higher percentage of the motion is on running plays… which is apparently not as beneficial (see tweets below).
Also… if the Lions are using significantly more motion at the snap for running plays than passing plays… this would likely be a tendency that defenses are aware of and can use to anticipate run vs. pass.
Since the Lions rank near bottom in use of play action… they are possibly missing opportunities to disguise their tendencies.

However, through 2020 motion at the snap on pass plays remained an offensive edge. https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1440753342314008595/photo/1 https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1440753342314008595?s=20

I’ve written before about the value of motion at the snap. But I noticed something in the offseason: in 2020 motion at the snap wasn’t an offensive advantage in the run game.
As motion usage has increased, we may have reached an equilibrium there. https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1440752615860490242/photo/1 https://twitter.com/SethWalder/status/1440752615860490242?s=20

#3-- Motion at the snap can do more than signal man vs. zone coverage.
Motion forces the defense to communicate at the last moment, which can cause coverage breakdowns. One of my favorite tactics is using motion to create a WR stack or bunch… which both allow quick separation on short routes.
It can be used to create advantages in numbers or angles for the routes… especially against man coverage. It is extremely difficult for a DB to run across the formation dodging LBs amd still get into position to stop a quick out run off jet motion. I remember Jerry Rice scoring TDs this way, and it still works.
And… it can help WRs avoid being jammed at the LOS.
Look at the OP… it shows the Lions are 22nd in percentage of motion on passing plays..
