Lions free-agents entering this off-season

I agree Mahogany was originally selected with an eye on replacing Zeitler but it appears Glasgow is more in need of being replaced than Zeitler.
I think it may still work out the way you suggest if GG moves back to RG and Mahogany takes over at LG.
Mahogany seemed to be effective at both LG and RG (albeit on small sample size of one game each), while GG seems significantly worse at LG than RG.

Kayode is a decent backup but after 3 years I think he is not going to get a lot better.
To maintain the elite level of O-line play that Goff and this team needs Kayode should not be a long term starter.

Holmes drafts an O-lineman every year so I expect there will be additional competition added to the mix of Decker, Kayode, Sorsdal, Niese, Muti, and Eguakun at Inside OL.

Yes passed but not competing with mahongey he would be competing with Glasgow and Sorsdal for the LG position.

Zeitler needs to make a decision. Play for Lions on team friendly deal or chase the money. Happy to have him back just believe he will get a better offer moneywise.

I’m a sucker for heart emoji tweets. He’ll be a Lion next year.

Air I thought CD3 said in his presser last year that lions had approached an extension but he wasn’t ready.

His value only went up.

I tend to think he won’t be back but you never know.

I think the fact that he missed the last 6 games of the season may limit his offers. Perhaps not but he does not have a history of NOT playing full seasons.

Lots of various comments about the OL line in this thread so far…. so here is my question.

How confident are you that Sorsdal makes the 53-man roster next year?

Davis was pretty vague in the interview, said talks were on and off, but he wanted to get his feet wet first, but was open to an extension. 4:15 mark.

Well, we cut James Mitchell 5th round pick after just two seasons.

So it’s definitely in the rhealm of possibility.

He hasn’t shown much yet…will be a big offseason for him and for BroMart on the DL

In my most harsh view of the roster, I have him not making it. It’s year 3, though, and I don’t want to completely write him off. Depending on how the draft falls, he could get snubbed.

I think if Sorsdal makes the roster it will be because we couldn’t find another bubble player to take his spot. Awosika and Mahogany have already leapfrogged him on the depth chart.

Holmes has given all his draft picks 3 years with the organization.
Mitchell didn’t make 53 but was on the practice squad.
(Chase Lucas decided to sign elsewhere instead of return to PS; I think Houston refused to go down to PS; A. Green retired due to injury)
I don’t see Sorsdal making the 53 but will be on the PS.

.

Agreed… Sorsdal hasn’t shown enougg to make this roster again… and not sure another team would claim him either.

Big offseason for Sorsdal. I think the tackle experiment needs to be thrown out the window. He looks like a guard, moves like a guard and struggled at Right tackle vs 3rd stringers in preseason.

He was a 5th round pick so no big deal either way.

There’re a lotta guys there most of us wouldn’t prioritize individually. But you also don’t want 25 new guys in the building next year. 25 new guys starting from scratch on the schemes (which won’t be radically overhauled) and the culture (even if they’re already ā€œthe right type of players.ā€

Continuity matters.

I think Soradal makes the roster because of versatility. That’s something this roster loves.

Yes Sorsdal is a jack of all trades and master of none. Mitchell was a jack of no trades and master of nothing.

Having a guy that can play anywhere on the OL (other than center) is valuable. All be it as the 8/9/10th guy on the OL. But he will be there.

I say zitler wont be there because of glasgow glasgow is cheap this year. So there is your cheap veteran. Makes absolutely zero sense to cut him.

So right now your OL Is

LT Decker - Manu
LG Mahogany - Muti
C Ragnow - Eguakun
RG Glasgow - Sorsdal
RT Sewell - Jones

Thats a solid 2 deep on the OL. Can it be better? Sure. But i think Glassgow will do better playing on his better side (the right) AND playing next to Sewell vs Decker.

I can see them adding a IOL in the draft to replace Muti as a development for either a Ragnow or Glasgow replacement for the future. But thats it. I dont see the need for another vet

Interesting. I’m actually not sure he can play anywhere but RG. Not at an NFL level anyway.

75% confident?

He has time in the system, he is cheap, and he is #3 or 4 on the depth chart now, with Glasgow wobbly.

I’m more worried about Zeitler not returning in a scenario that Rags gets hurt (very possible) and our interior is now Sorsdal, Glasgow at C and Mahogany.

Not that we have seen no. But they have been putting him everywhere at practices. So theres value there.
Again he makes the roster. Because they are going to keep 8-10 OL. Other than the starting 5+Manu i cant definitely say there are 2-4 other OL better than sorsdal. They could still add a rookie and a cheap vet and hes still on the roster

If they keep ten I agree, but eight and I think he’s out. I know they really liked Galvin too before he got hurt, so maybe he gets a look. Also no Skipper on that list, and I could definitely see us moving on if Manu’s ready, but they may decide to play it safe there as well. I also fully expect a rookie to be added. So to me it’s more of an uphill climb.

Galvin hasnt been added yet. But hes an ERFA so they have until 4/23 they are probably trying to find out if he will be healthy.

I say no to 53 for skip. Maybe practice squad all depends on Manu.

Lions typically keep 9. They kept 11 last year because Mahogany was on NFI and Manu was a project.

If i were to be i would say 9-10 this year. 5 starters plus.

Manu, Sorsdal, Rookie TBA. Then one of the returning depth players.
