Lions Land Hard Knocks on HBO

From an interview with the Hard Knocks Director

If I can go back to the beginning, how did the decision to have the Lions on “Hard Knocks” come about?

A. “I think everybody knows kind of the rules at this point to, like, if we force someone. We don’t like to force anyone. But there was some interest from both the Lions and the Jets, I think, which were the two teams that were on the list this year. But there was a mutual agreement, the Lions kind of reached out, we were on board. Whenever anyone seems like they’re on board and wants to do it, we want to do it."

Truly, a departure from the secretive Patriots style.

I think from the Lions point of view this is a great way to get some national exposure. They know what they are building here and doing this can build even more excitement and sell tickets/merchandise.

It also gives pending FAs an inside look of what it’s like being on this team. I love the fact that they decided they wanted to do this.

I’ve been more excited about this season then almost any I can remember and Hard Knocks is a big part of that.

I think this is a case of being forced to do something and both sides act like its a mutual decision. Its like being and kid and its your turn to take out the trash and saying “this is great because I wanted to get some fresh air anyways.” You are making the most out of something you had to do anyways, and your parents can say “he seemed really happy about it.”

@Mr.Peabody exactly.

I think it’s likely the Lions did reach out, but mainly because they just want this behind them. I think they’d rather get this out of the way right now than to have to deal with it going into year 3. This leaves the Jets to deal with this stuff in a year where the expectations are going to be a lot higher for both clubs.

That’s crazy talk right there. Teams that don’t make the playoffs in the prior year are ineligible, so this is the last chance for Hard Knocks to have the Lions in a very, very long time.

Oh I like this optimism.

I was unaware of the rule. My perception shifted the second I found out about it.
We’ll be in the playoffs either this year or next. I can’t draw up a scenario where Coach Dan isn’t a winner.

Oh great, here come the bandwagon fans…

If they win, this experience will be great for the organization. If they lose, national media will turn it into a joke and it could really hurt the organization.

I think though regardless other players might see
how much our players love being here. So talking heads can guffaw all they want. If it helps us draw quality players it’s worth it

Okay, shocker time. This is going to be my first “Hard Knocks”. Anything this show does to be on the lookout for?

I’ve never watched it either. I’m guessing it will be very cool. I would never watch another team’s stuff. IMO, that’d be like watching preseason interviews with other teams players and coaches. Not with the energy, unless someone is getting rumored to be traded to Detroit. LOL

I haven’t watched it either. My oldest daughter, who is just a Fairweather NFL fan, loves it and watches every season now. She’s excited that it’s finally the Lions even though she lives in Indiana now.

Looks like we have a lot of virgins here.

I’m looking forward to being de-virginized as well.
