29 year old DE coming with some injuries the past two seasons. Production is still solid, but you can argue a bit of a decline the past two years compared to his 2022 and 2023 seasons, along with that contract.
I don’t know how anybody can say this without seeing how these guys perform in their draft year and who declares or not? Remember all the Tank for Arch talk? Oh I remember it quite well. Things change very quickly with college athletes.
With that said, I think Crosby should come with a major buyer beware sign. Injuries starting to pile up, nearing 30, wanting an extension. He’s a huge risk, potential huge reward too of course but huge risk
Would it be a surprise if they shit the bed? No, it wouldn’t. Most classes fade the year of (but not all, 2021 was loaded). But I can say this with utter certainty: at this point a year out, the 2027 is better than any other class this century was a year out. A lot can change, sure, but man this class has more generational prospects than most, and those type of players tend to hold their value even if they don’t have the best final year, like Stingley did.
Maxx Crosby is widely considered one of the NFL’s premier run-defending edge players, consistently ranking among the top defenders with elite run stop win rates (38% in 2025) and leading the league in tackles for loss (133 since 2019). Known for his relentless motor, he excels at setting the edge, shedding blocks, and making plays behind the line of scrimmage.
He’s definitely one of the best run defenders and one of the best defensive players overall in the NFL.
Not sure how Nate responding to a post in a way that isn’t even a similar comparison is a mic drop, but okay.
I didn’t say that any guy in the 2027 draft is a sure lock. But the sheer number of guys who are available at the top end and deep into the draft haven’t been seen in a while. Being smart and planning ahead means you recognize this and plan accordingly to have as many available shots at a deep class. Not trade out of it for an aging DE who has been in decline and injured the last few seasons and carries a $30m a year price tag.
But hey, some people on this forum think nickel is a base defense.
He is a good run defender, for sure. Not disputing that. It’s the “best run defender in the league” claim that made me do a double-take. No, he’s not, scores be damned. He’s an excellent chase defender against the run, but like most 255 pound edge defenders, if you run right at him he can struggle. He’s better than most guys his size, admittedly, but “better than most guys his size” does not equal “best run defender in the league.”
Most tackles for loss since he entered the league is pretty impressive. Is he going to hold up like a 350 lb DT…..no, but as far as edge defenders go he’s considered to be one of the best. But I get what your saying.
Right, he’s a savant at the run-and-chase aspect of defending the run, and a plus overall, as I said. But the very best like Myles Garrett, etc… can’t be run at either. Hutch holds up much better as well as the target of an opponents’ run game.
I wasn’t ridiculing you and I don’t think @Nate was either. I’m sorry if it felt that way. I liked the over-the-top response in the moment, kind of like a floor war competition at a Furry convention, in a playful way–the Sims comment.
