NFL Combine Day 2: Defensive Backs / Tight Ends

Porter is more likely a victim of coaching malpractice than a really late bloomer. IMO as always.

The problem re: us is he’s a terrible tackler. Now he’s new to the position, so that goes some way to explaining it, but all those skills and he couldn’t get on the field in Ames for six year? I’m not a huge fan of that profile. We’ve met with him so clearly we’re intrigued (I think any long CB will intrigue us), but I’m really not a fan at all.

I also don’t see any way he gets out of day 2 now. I think PFF has had him on the borderline of the 1st round for a couple of months now.

Big difference between Emmanwori and Starks.

I think Porter is too much of a project to take in 1st 2 rds.
I could stomach taking him in the 3rd since the picks is so late.
Porter feels like a Holmes 3rd rd project because of all the physical tools and potential.
The tackling appears more technique than willingness.
I don’t hold his play time and tackling against him as much because he’s played WR through high school and his first 3 college seasons.
Depending on what’s on the board I would begin considering him at 101.

We’ll see, but I would be stunned if he was still there at 101. I’d be marginally surprised if he’s there at 60. He reminds me so much of Juju Brents, another guy who basically did nothing until his final year then measured/tested like a badass. 6’3, 200 pounds, 34 inch arms, 41.5 inch vert, 11’6 broad, and while he wasn’t as fast as Porter, his 6.63 3-cone at his size is legit number, and the 10-yard split was 95% as well.

Brents went in the 2nd with pick 44… and has been injured/bad ever since. What were the knocks? Poor instincts, decent in zone but a projection in man, has trouble sinking his hips in and out of breaks, lack of strength. And Brents was a better tackler. Not a great one or anything, but better than Porter.

wooof, a 10 inch difference

Emmanwori is a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  freak lol

I mean he was #1 on the freaks list, so none of this is surprising. Just good to get confirmation of it.

I understand your concern with Porter at 28 or 60.
I wouldn’t even consider him with those picks.

If Porter is gone at 101, he is gone.

I see him as a starting Gunner and a project at DB with tremendous size, length, speed, and ball skills.
If another team wants him on Day #1 or #2, have at it.

JuJu is a great athlete but I can’t let a previous player failure scare me away from what amounts to a day #3 pick.
Just looking at Porter, I think he would be a good developmental DB to add to the secondary along with a vet free agent.

Oh I wouldn’t avoid Porter because Juju busted, I’m just using him as a baseline for why I think Porter will be long gone.

My corner prediction:

Bring back CDIII

AND

Cobee Bryant with AG pick

Wooof helm

Not a great vert at all

Especially since he checked in at like 242 or something.

Wooooooof

4.93 in the 40 for helm too. This is why guys don’t test at the combine.

Man a lot of these guys killing the sled drill though @BubbaBaker-60. Batholomew, Simon, and especially Taylor all looked great.
