Yeah I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure he’s 7th best save percentage right now amongst all active goalies. If true, and he holds that w the Wings, that’s a significant bump for this team

GAA was around 2 70 mark. Doesn’t seem bad. But the ducks were awful last year

Wings have 18.4 salary

yeah this was a move that was needed, Goaltending has been an issue alogn with D past couple seasons

Solid move. Gibson is an upgrade over anything Detroit currently has ready for the NHL level. Though, could really stand to bolster that defense or it won’t matter at all who is in net.

Social media dorks hate this move

Dude how dare you? I’m 42 and ready to make my NHL debut. Sure I only play mens beer league hockey but if a zamboni driver can beat the Leafs, I believe I can help the wings!

Yzerman wasn’t done adding goalies……

Interesting to add another draft pick shortly after drafting Cossa and Augustine…. but looks like a tall kid with athleticism and upside.

Developmental goalie. Wont sniff the NHL till 2031 at the earliest. No issue with the selection at all.

Worst case he stays in GR for life. Best case he becomes a solid NHL goalie.

As for the trade. I mean its an upgrade at a low cost.

Higher up side that Merasik.
Still not a long term solution.

Not saying he didnt. But hearing around the league from experts. Steve is a bear to deal with in negotiations. Both FA and Trades. Also look around at some of the trades. A lot went for cheaper than expected or players that got traded out of no where.

And dont lie to me and tell me he tried at all for Dobs. It was a fit and the price was good. But again ā€œwe dont want to hand out termā€ bla bla bla.

Wait Gibson is $2m AAV more!!!

Yes hes better than Pete but not by 50% more.

Still only gona play in ~50 games a year

Pete SV% 88%
Gibson 90%

Thank God because Verbeek’s original want for Gibson was a 1st and Johansson.

Could be the draft a goalie every X amount of years strategy, or it could be a well Cossa is trending down so let’s get another one in the system (my I have no idea what I’m talking about but having watched Cossa is my personal opinion).

When Steve got here, there was ZERO goaltending depth. You never know how they’re going to develop, so ā– ā– ā– ā–  it - take one a year. Load the system with goalies. No different than a QB. Draft 'em often and see if you get something special outside the first round.

Thats what i would do too.

Draft and develop a goalie every year in the mid rounds.

Just like RBs in the NFL. Draft one every year

Not that I am claiming to know how to build a Hockey team but I would think that would be a given that you draft a goalie every year. Goalie is the most important position on a Hockey team, like QB for football.

Goaltending is but why another one, unless steve realized neither are close to be ready, and the traded for goalie on top of that. The ready part is scary

The same reason why you would draft a QB, if not each year, every few years or so. I mean once you have problems at the goalie position you are FOCKED…same as QB. But also, Goalies don’t quite stir the controversy that QBs do. With goalies you welcome wealth at that position, not necessarily so with QBs.

Nfl is way different then nhl. It takes time to develop goaltending. But cossa has been in system for 4 years , Augustin a few years and i think is very average at msu. To my mind taken another goaltender, tells me Yzerman thinks cossa is still behind. Gibson gives him one year to hope Cossa is ready by then. If not its a big issue.
