He strongly reminds me of Steve McNair. McNair was a better passer coming out of college but still had a lot to learn. He was more of a running back that threw for the first several years of his career. They leaned heavily on Eddie George and the defense. The same thing could be done in Detroit. Let him sit and learn for a couple years. Then lean on the run game and defense until he unlocks all his talent. That’s best case scenario. Worst case is he becomes another RGIII and is a backup quarterback after a couple years because of injury and inconsistency.
Willis 4 carries 54 yards
Led the team in rushing and only played 1 quarter.
Only 4 pass attempts that weren’t canceled because of flags.
Luckily for us Goff played well down the stretch. So we’re not desperate for a quarterback this year. Hopefully next year is a much better group.

I’d love to get 5 of these guys. Pretty sure we’d have 3 stud starters early on the year.
Was also nearly tackled by his face mask and it wasn’t called… which would have extended his possession and given him more reps.
Maybe it’s just me but I hate when coaches don’t play all the player on their roster for these all star games. These kids are trying to showcase their talent and you don’t give them an opportunity. It’s a dick move.
Prior to shredding his knee up because he got bad advice….
RG3 completed 65% of his passes, had a 4:1 TD to INT ratio, went 9-6 as a starter, and made the pro bowl.
I’ll take it.
It wasn’t the production I was questioning. It was the injuries. Same with all running quarterbacks. All that talent does you no good if it’s on the sidelines.
Also - One week matters…it does, but it’s not the same as implementing over the course of an offseason to prep them. It’s like coaching high school track…how much faster can you really make them in the first week of practice?
That wasn’t the point, just verifying what we knew.
I guess Willis will be the next Stafford, don’t criticize him or you’ll get the wrath of all the Willis lovers
I’m not on the Willis train but it sure would be fun to get to use this gif every Sunday in the fall
2023 is the QB draft for me.
Russ didn’t miss a game until this year… had 149 straight starts.
Lamar hadn’t missed a game until this year.
Cam Newton… missed only 5 games in his first 8 years.
Kaepernick didn’t get hurt.
McNair didn’t miss much time.
Mahomes runs quite a bit… hasn’t missed many games. His injury was on a fluke QB sneak.
Josh Allen… no injuries.
Vick didn’t get hurt often.
The OG… Fran Tarkenton… played over 240 games and barely missed any time.
Randal Cunningham did tear an ACL… and then played til he was 38 yo.
Favre and Elway scrambled all over… didn’t miss time with injuries. Heck… Elway played his entire career without one of his ACLs.
Andrew Luck ran quite a bit… but his worst hits were taken in the pocket.
How about less mobile guys…
Tom Brady… torn ACL in the pocket.
Joe Burrow… torn ACL and MCL in the pocket.
Joe Flacco… torn ACL and MCL in pocket.
RG3… torn ACL and LCL in the pocket.
Philly Riv… torn ACL.
Peyton Manning… neck injury in pocket.
Drew Brees… dislocated shoulder/ torn labrum
Troy Aikman… concussions ended his career
Bernie Kosar… more concussions than Aikman!
Joe Montana… elbow injured on hit in pocket.
Drew Bledsoe… punctured lung, concussion
Dan Marino…, torn Achilles
Carson Palmer…. 2 torn ACLs
Alex Smith… mobile, but hurt in pocket.
Theismann… gross.
Fitzmagic… hip injury last year in pocket.
Tannehill… tore ACL in the pocket.
Kurt Warmer… broken finger, MCL, concussions
I can’t really see that running QBs are at a higher risk of injury based on history.
I don’t really know if I would use #2 on him… would certainly be nice to trade down and still get him… but I am gonna be a fan of him no matter where he lands.
I like Goff and will root for him to succeed as well.
But man… I just want see Malik in a Lions uniform.
There are dudes who are smart runners. Most injuries involving running and QBs were guys that can’t run trying to and then getting hurt.
Didn’t watch the game, out of town. Anyone know how Travis Jones did?
he was a beast.
He drove a OG back into Zappe so hard that he fell down and Jones got a sack by tapping him after he hit hit the dirt.
He also shut down the run on several plays.
DJ pointed him out several times.
Thanks, I mentioned him in another thread about what advice I would give Holmes. Playing at UConn there isn’t much to go on but a writer I follow said he was killing it in practice. Hope there’s some film.
From PFN:
2022 Senior Bowl final takeaways:
Teams were less than complimentary about the way the Detroit Lions ran their practices. As one general manager said, “These were the worst Senior Bowl practices in 25 years!!”
I would agree to an extent. There was very little tempo during the sessions run by the Lions. Additionally, there seemed to be too much waiting around. I witnessed long pauses between snaps when the receivers and defensive backs were doing drills.
As far as the worst practices in 25 years? All I’ll say is Dave McGinnis and the Arizona Cardinals’ staff ran some awful practices in 2002.

Seems like Jones is becoming the number 2 nose and a round 2 pick.
