Pigskin Paul’s comments about how he did in practice this week, “This guy is at his best when he is a purely and simply bully pushing blockers back into the pocket to collapse it and forcing QBs off their “spot”. He was literally unblockable in on-on-one’s down here. And occasionally if the bully rush wasn’t working he used his arms and strength to push guys aside and show surprising quickness to go around them.” It’s why I wondered how he did in the game.
How did Malik do?
It looks like he didn’t pass it much but had a nice run.
Opinions change after today?
That’s not great about the Lions’ staff.
I see it differently
Duce was good with the RBs this year
Pleasant was great with DBs
Neither can run a team or a D solo, but in a few months they won’t be.
If anything when they read the headers they will be humbled, try harder, and maybe be less likely to chase power soon
Hard to spin “worst practices in 25 years.”
Why do you need to spin it? I think it’s a stretch that Duce’s Senior practice is representative of what the Lions’ practices are like during the year. Player development was pretty impressive last year so I think what we’re doing seems to be working. We just need a better roster.
As a fan of his he did ok. He threw it way more than 4 times but there were either PI’s or other flags that negated his throws.
Also our American team line probably gave up 10+ sacks in total, so Willis looked like he normally did, Howell looked not great, and Zappe looked bad.
The National team owned both lines of scrimmage all game.
2 completions for 11 yards is “ok”?
No, I mean he completed way more than that but they didn’t go on the stat sheet because of flags.
Like there was a 3rd down play that Willis threw a 8 yard out that was completed and drew a PI, but the PI resulted in more yards so Duce took that over the completion.
There was holding a couple of times too.
He also only played like 3 series in the 1st quarter.
HSVLion covered it. Malik was in familiar territory, running for his life. The American team QBs were trash. If you listen to the guys that watched the game vicariously through twitter, he was terrible too.
Pickett, Ridder and the entire National team looked much better in all 3 phases.
Give me two of Tolbert, Watson and Gray and a mid tier veteran and I’m happy with the WR room. Such an approach might allow us to draft three impact defenders.
Didn’t the just change the rule on who could coach this year?
Can’t use a 24 yr old standard when they supposedly just change the rule of coaching for this game
Ok , thanks.
At least he wasn’t as bad as someone would think that didn’t watch the game.
Do you guys think the game hurt his stock any?
Nope, he showed his normal self, a RB playing at QB.
However according to LT and Baldy, out of the QBs, Howell and Ridder helped themselves. I’d agree, and Pickett did as expected.
I’ll piggyback onto this reply… because it is a good account of the game.
There were a few things I liked from Willis.
#1 - he showed some patience when he had a little protection. The O line did struggle, but I showed some screen shots in an earlier post above… on a play where he progressed to his 3rd read… slid up in the pocket… and delivered a great ball on a frozen rope to the sideline about 20 yards downfield.
#2 - I thought his decision making on when to take off and was good. There were a few plays where he scrambled away from pressure… but continued to look downfield and eventually had to throw it away. On a few plays, he saw the alley in front of him and took off for gains.
#3 - His speed… and perhaps more importantly… quickness is legit. I think some people may have questioned if he was an elite runner as a QB after the Ole Miss game… but I think he showed today that he is athletic enough to be putting up 800+ yards rushing.
Random info… a QB has run for over 600 yards in a season just over 20 times in the past 20 years… and those teams won over 60% of their games.
Ok , thanks.

His stock is not hurt in the slightest. He was one of the lone bright spots on the American roster.
That’s a nice stat and not surprising at all to me. Follow up question…how many playoff games have those QBs won and lost in their careers? And I’m guessing Russ Wilson is the only one to win a SB.

Newton, Kaepernick, McNair, and Russ all lost Super Bowls… 3 were close games.
Not sure how many playoff games were won… but Russ, Lamar, Josh Allen, Kyler, and Hurts all still have time to add to that number.
