The more I read, the worse it sounds for Chauncey. Listen to this guy calling this 2019 poker game, that Billups was involved in, out back in 2023. The only way he beats the charges is if he didn’t know about the conspiracy, because its an intent crime. But its almost impossible to believe he didn’t know.
We’re going to hear so much over the upcoming weeks to months about how the NBA puts the integrity of the game first, but come on. The major sports leagues knew damn well what was going to happen when they crawled in bed with the sports betting industry. This is probably the tip of the iceberg. There are billions of dollars at stake, and it’s way too easy for someone with a little inside info to make a quick buck off of it.
Yep, it was so obvious it was a bad idea when the NFL starting warming up to it putting a team in Vegas etc. Vegas itself isn’t so bad, but then all the cozying up that come with embracing gambling.
You make a big gambling sting even though you know about it and abide it for years. Next ban a bunch of young players who then go play in China to further integrate with the Asian market. Use this as a springboard to finally expand into China and make billions.
Or
A bunch of rich guys fix games to give their broke friends free bet money.
I would think organized crime members would just love those individual player prop bets. It might be difficult to influence the outcome of a game but not so much for an individuals personal performance. Kind of like Classe or the other Cleveland pitcher. Make the first pitch a ball or walk the first batter? Viewers would never expect anything. It only becomes suspicious when you see the amount of money that was paid out on a stupid little prop bet. It would seem players would be very subject to blackmail as well even if they weren’t trying to make some easy money.
I dont care if people gamble, but the advertising needs reigned in. It is an adults only activity that is pimped non stop during sports that are supposed to be healthy experiences for kids.
NFL play 60 doesn’t mean squat when the kids are also indoctrinated toward gambling during every game.
Well said. These organizations can promote all the positive slogans they want, but when a family’s life savings evaporates, home is foreclosed on, and mom and dad divorce, virtuous platitudes fall woefully short.
There’s definitely an issue with pretending that betting on sports is somehow, while not exactly wholesome, a legit and normal business activity. It’s not, really.
