The Jets just lost the first pick

obviously there are people that prefer Jacksonville to NYC, but the fact that Jacksonville has a population of 900K and NYC a population over 8 million points to NYC being by far the preferred destination.

You mean compensatory pick and no, Lions aren’t getting any.

Cool, that 8-10 area is the sweet spot for TEs.

Whats wrong with Alabama?

If all teams with the better record win out, we’d be at 8.
If we beat TB, we’re at 12. Beat Minny, we’re at 13. Beat both we’re at 14. We’ll probably beat Minny, its just what we do.

Dabo will never leave Clemson for any NFL HC job. He’s strictly a college coach.

:expressionless:

I just threw up in my mouth a bit.  :joy:

@NYLion59 Beyond extraneous things. As an organization, the Jags have been to the AFC Championship game a couple of times and have shown they occasionally know how to put a team on the field. Mark Brunell had a good, long run there. The Jets, as an organization, have been an absolute dumpster fire since Parcells left. It’s become a place where careers go to die from the moment a guy is drafted.

I would also point out that in terms of income taxes, technically the Jets work out of New Jersey, which signed into law a 10.75% state income tax for individuals earning between 1 - 5 million gross. This is separate from federal or local municipality income taxes.

As far as endorsement deals, Covid-19 and the internet has quickly put markets on even ground. Especially when #1 overall generates its own endorsement market. Unfortunately for the Jets, the realized income of the #2 pick might be less than #3. That’s going to be a hard sell, especially when you factor in cost of living and housing.

Mark Brunell had a ā€œgood runā€ with the Jags back when Parcells was with the Jets. After that Jack Del Rio had a couple of good seasons with the Jags around the same time Herm Edwards had some good seasons with the Jets. Then Rex Ryan came in and had a few good seasons with the Jets while the Jags were one of the worst teams in football. Then the Jags had one good season in 2017 while the Jets were falling apart. Somewhere in that mix Todd Bowles went 10-6 but the rest of his tenure was bad.

A player would only pay (or not pay) his teams location tax situation for 8 home games. Then they are subject to paying the taxes for where they travel to for road games. I can’t imagine a trip to play the Patriots is cheap. But I wonder what its like tax wise to go to Buffalo every year. Flip it to the Jags, and not only does the player get 8 ā€œtax freeā€ games at home…but when they travel to the Titans and Texans every year its cheaper too. So as a Jag you get at least 10 lower tax games a year…guaranteed.

@wesleysh21 hey wes, remember when the Jets signed Neil O’Donnell to that huge deal to be the answer?

I watched him last year and thought I saw someone that would be able to fit well in their system. I was impressed with his strength taking on Guards, which is something we haven’t seen from our Linebacking corp here since I don’t know when. Though not a speedy guy, he certainly looked faster and more athletic than Christian Jones.

Why?

This is less of an issue in the NFL than it is in other sports but there are significant additional business opportunities in NYC that are likely not available in Jax. Whether or not that is an issue depends on how enterprising he is I suppose.

Lol. Ok

Plus he makes 9.3 million a year in Clemson. There are only 3 NFL coaches that make more than he does. He has it great at Clemson. He will always have a top 5 ish recruiting class, gets basically a free ride into the CFP annually, and can call his shots at Clemson.
There is no reason for him to leave Clemson.

But you are paying 15-20% more in taxes annually in NY, you don’t have to do a bunch of other stuff in Jacksonville to make that money back.

Let me guess, the 3 NFL Head Coaches making more than Dabo are Belichick, Pete Carroll & Reid?

Gruden not Reid.
I also think Sean Payton makes more too.

But to get Dabo the Lions are going to have to throw a lot more money at him than he is making at Clemson. Plus, he seems pretty happy coaching at Clemson. Like I mentioned, he has it made at Clemson, has a great shot at making the CFP every year, and gets great recruiting classes.
Making 9.3 million a year and having a huge advantage over the other college coaches probably is a job that is impossible to leave.

If you don’t get the higher ups right

What exactly does the first pick do ?

Stafford vs Curry , Lions vs Seattle

One team made the right first round pick
The other had a super bowl and playoffs in the same post draft stretch.

First pick is great for selling tickets though a young QB on hope alone is worth way more than they pay him based on rookie cap wages. Real worth is probably more like the contract Staffiord got a a rookie , which the lions continued to make money from 12 yrs later.
