Low risk high reward pitcher
Age: 27.
Non-tendered by: Atlanta Braves.
Arbitration projection: $2.2 million.
The buzz: Manoah ā a 2022 All-Star as part of a four-year MLB career ā didnāt pitch in the big leagues last season. He spent all of 2025 in the minors, making 10 starts across four levels. In Triple-A, he posted a 2.97 ERA with 18 walks and 30 strikeouts over 33ā innings in seven starts. His sinker averaged 91.1 mph in those outings, down from 93.3 mph in 2022, while his slider generated a 37.8% whiff rate, up from 31.8% in 2022. After his All-Star season, Manoah struggled with underperformance in 2023, underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024 and didnāt fully rebound in 2025. He is likely to draw a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, making him a low-risk option for the Tigers with Opening Day roster upside. At his peak, he finished third in AL Cy Young voting in 2022, behind only Justin Verlander (Astros) and Dylan Cease (Chicago White Sox). Manoah is still talented, but whether any team can help him reach his potential again is uncertain.
Iād be shocked if he pitches in the MLB again.
@stephenboyd57 your thoughts?
Manoah was just nasty early in his career. Especially 2022. But then came the command issues in 2023. He was notorious for taking forever inbetween pitches but when they brought in the pitch clock he couldnāt throw strikes anymore. It was pretty alarming. We even tried to send him to the minors and he refused to go. Huge red flag there.
Then in 2024 looked a bit better, lost a ton of weight. And seemed to be adjusting to the pitch clock and then blew out his arm.
Last year he was rehabbing in the minors but had no command and no velocity post surgery. Hence the Jays released him. And now the Braves donāt want him either.
He will have to show teams he can get his velo back up to get another chance. Heās a bit of a hot head so he needs to pitch well to be worth a roster spot.
Makes sense.
low risk addition, should be low cost as well. Iām not aggressively advocating it, he was one of five players mentioned in todayās paper, and seemed worth a shot.
Sawx just traded for Sonny Gray and his $40 million contract obligation for 2026.
No word on Cardinals return, but has to be minimal and Im sure they are sending cash too. Gray waived his NTC.
Gray gave up a career high 25 homers last season. Now headed to pitch in Fenway. Lets set a new record
F the Red Sox
Interesting thought and one I wouldnāt be shocked by in the next 12-15months.
Point is on the trading of Tork being a possibility and not his projected return mentioned below
2 pitchers Fitts and Clarke go to StlTL, and Boston gets $20m.
Clarke #5 in system, power lefty Juco in high A, Fitts made 10 starts in Boston last year and gave up 11 HR in 45 innings, so I bet he is happy to switch stadiums.

I see no reason for them to make their lineup worse for next season.
Thereās a difference between trading all your prospects for one last run with Skubal, and selling your current position players while you still have Skubal under contract. The last thing they should be doing is making their lineup worse for next season.
The whole āregression candidateā thing is a valid argument, but it could also just be a bad guess. We have no idea.
Thus the next 12-15months comment on the trade.
Iām still not 100% sold on Tork which is why I also wasnāt sure his projected return on a Tork trade is accurate. I do, however, believe 100% in Keith being one of the best hitters on this team in the near future and needs more playing time.
This isnāt meant to be negative in any way, Iām just curiousā¦why do you think that?
I predict progression, not regression.
I feel like he made a good jump last year and will make another jump this year.
.260 Ave and 30+ homeruns.
Until they anchor Keith I donāt think heās going to come close to developing to as well as potential and the qo that Torres put in place for this year I think makes that an issue. While heās Young still itās time probably for him to have that boost season and I think itās hard doing it bouncing around the diamond and DH.
Given how little Naylor got and from rumors how the Alonzo contract is going to turn out Iām not sure how much trade value there is rhetorical sin that makes sense more than simply letting him stay and hopefully hit like he is now and then making decision about cycling out or paying him in a couple years heās kind of like the Casey Mize of the offense
Having watched him at every level and he continues to improve, love his knowledge of the zone and more.
But, with no consistent playing time, especially at one position, you wonāt see the growth. As much as AJ loves to move players all over the field, and I get it, itās not one of my favorite things.

Would you do this? Itās a lot to give up but four years of control of Skenes? ![]()
No
So Torkelson had a good year, we should trade him because he wonāt be as good next year. WTF is that?
Yup. I would.
Pitt would take MacLean and McGonigle and Tong and Clark. Wouldnt take the offered deal.
