Does Stratego work for just two players? My son loves Risk when we have my brother or some friends over. Not as much with just two. Same with Catan.

Pandemic looks cool. I think he might dig that. Though my wife will get some PTSD when that board game comes out.
Yeah, It Takes Two was the first game that my SO and I played together. We weren’t dating at the time and didn’t know each other all that well, but it looked fun and she thought about saying no because it seemed too “coupley”…but she said yes. First to the game, and then to me a couple months later haha.
Luckily, her and I have a shared interest in gaming which is really awesome and something we’re able to connect to each other through a lot. Though, I think she might be more of a gamer than me. My ADHD has gotten worse as I’ve gotten older, so it’s harder for me to actually finish games unless they’re REALLY good or I get so weird hyperfocus on them and play them straight through.

Any good recommendations for newer RPG games would be appreciated as I haven’t paid much attention to games after the sexy was replaced with not so attractive types.
If I’m wasting time in a video game give me some eye candy.

As mentioned in the other thread that spawned this one, if you haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 or Expedition 33, both are excellent and are almost universally loved and celebrated as huge RPG successes. BG3 is a much bigger tackle, but has so much to offer. Almost infinite replayability as well. And E33 is just a modern masterpiece, imo. And even if you’re not a fan of traditional turn based combat, they’ve added enough flavor to it to keep it feeling new.
Can’t really recommend the latest Dragon Age. It’s changed so much since Origins it doesn’t even feel the same series anymore.

Yeah, in fact it might only work with two players, at least the original version. Like chess. It’s the only way I’ve ever played it.
I have the same issue with so many games. My main problem is I try to find games that really grab me and even then, if they are large games I find myself quitting before I finish. Kingdome Come Deliverance 1 and 2 were also very good games that I couldn’t put down, but then I burned out on them and I don’t have the motivation to play. I’ve on staycation next week and maybe I’ll focus on BG3 or KCD2 because they are great games.

Another game I’d recommend, that wasn’t hyped as much as some others than I thought was awesome was The Alters. Probably my 3rd favorite game of 2025 behind E33 and Dispatch.
Narrative sci-fi game with multiple choices and endings that has some replayability and they recently put out a DLC I’ve been wanting to pick up and play through.

I am not awesome at these games. I had to use online coop with strangers to beat many bosses. No shame in that.

I did play this one for a little bit on gamepass. I did it enjoy and will buy it on Steam once it has a good sale.

These games are a curious case for me, much like the Mass Effect games. They are games that I should LOVE and want to get into. But every time I’ve tried to pick them up (KCD a couple times) and Mass Effect 1 (at least 3 times), they just don’t seem to grab me hard enough to keep me going. They have everything I love in games, but for whatever reason, they just didn’t stick with me enough to keep me going. I’m sure I’ll give them shots again and hope for a different result since I know how much people love them and I know that they have what I look for in games.
I also have this weird thing where if a game is part of a series, I HAVE to play through the series and not skip games. So it’s not like I can just pick up ME2 or KCD2 and hope for better luck. My brain will not allow it.

I was very late to the party for Mass Effect. 1 was pretty rough with the graphics and gameplay. The other 2 are much better and I did finish all 3. One thing I did like is how your decisions carried over to the next game. Never played Andromeda though since I haven’t heard good things.

Nothing wrong with that! I grew up at the tale of end NES and most of my early childhood memories are from playing SNES JRPGs. I love the SNES dearly and between it and the PS1, are kind of what I consider the golden age for JRPGs, which have always been my preferred genre of game. I have played and beating quite literally, ever single English released SNES JRPG, and have worked through most of the ones that were never released in the US through fan translations that have been made since rom hacking became a thing.
I love the ■■■■ out of some SNES RPGs man. That’s where my heart is.

Final Fantasy 3 (6), is my favorite all time game. It changed video games for me. First video game to ever make me get emotional while playing it, and it did it twice. Yeah, I’m a softie at heart.

Yeah, I’m glad to see there’s so many of us that are into gaming in one form or another. I feel like pretty much all of my friends now are gamers in some aspect, but I never thought that we’d be able to have a thread about gaming on this forum, so it’s nice. I just assumed you were all old, crusty bastards who only watched sports.

That was the original final fantasy 7 for me. The scene with Aerith got me as a kid.
