Where the gaming nerds at?

I enjoy the sounds of school games and believe it the graphics. But I also enjoyed 64. I loved Xbox and game cube. Oh and the wife got a free switch and I was hooked to that because you can buy a year if old school games

6 is definitely my favorite Final Fantasy game. I think it get severely underrated because Square hasn’t really done anything with it and now it gets overshadowed by 7, 9, 10, etc. But yeah, I love that game so much. Kefka is such an unhinged villian. It was my favorite SNES RPG for a long time, but I think there are probably a couple that I’d put above it now that I’ve pretty much played most of the entire catalogue of SNES RPGs. But it really is a masterpiece.

And same, I am a softie at heart too. There’s a few games that get me. I can’t watch someone play E33 without getting emotional and ugly crying…but that hasn’t stopped me from watching pretty much any new playthrough I can find on YouTube of it because I just love the story that much and want to see how people react to it unfolding.

45 here, played Intellivision as one of my earliest childhood memories with my Dad. Grew up on Nintendo, SNES/Genesis, Playstation/Xbox, then graduated to computer gaming. Primarily game on PC now and have built my own pc’s since I was a teen.

I still play a good amount of Rocket League, RDR2, Palworld, E33, Skyrim. I played a ton of NHL hockey growing up, played Madden but prefer NCAA. Loved they brought it back but it’s not quite the same. Still play the modded NCAA 14.

We know he’s a real fan because he said Aerith and not Aeris.

If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the Asmongold series of him playing E33. I’ve never actually enjoyed watching someone else play a game, but I loved and watched that whole series. The first 30 minutes of E33, you can literally watch the chat tone change from people laughing, talking shit, goofing around, to seeing it go quiet and people getting choked up. That story is so good, because they don’t shy away from anything. That game gets pretty damn dark.

For those who come after.

Nice thing about old games is that you can pretty much play any of them for free if you own a phone. Hell, newer phones have enough power to run some PS3 games pretty stable. Of course, it’s not exactly legal…but the emulation scene has been around forever and will never go away.

No first person shooter gamers on here? Battlefield 6!

I hear To the Moon is very emotional. The RDR 2 ending made me emotional.

Yeah, I’ve watch Asmon’s playthrough of it. I’ve probably seen at least 20 different people play through it. (though now I just skip to the parts I want to see their reactions to lol). It’s always so fun to see them slowly piece together the puzzle after seeing them get their hearts ripped open over and over. That game is such a great ride narratively, on top of just being a solid technical game as well.

My version of Madden when I was a kid. If you recognize it you know how dam old I’am. My brother and I would play this for 12 straight hours.

I enjoy them. Not so much Battlefield games - I absolutely detest FPS games that have vehicles in them. First FPS love was Quake 3 Arena. Then Modern Warfare/Black Ops, then more to BR games like PUBG and Apex. I don’t know, doesn’t seem like there’s enough in the genre to keep me coming back for the 19th COD installment. My brother was really into BF6 and I played a few times but it just seems so…boring now. Give me back the Duke Nukem’s and the Quakes. The new Doom games have been excellent, though.

RDR2 story is fantastic. Loved going on that journey. The ending played out like a movie. I’ve played through that game probably 4 times and have over 1K hours on it.

Final Fantasy 6, I’ll say this. The Ghost Train sequence got me. When they realize what the train is doing, and then Cyan sees the his wife and kid boarding the train, and the kid says he will keep practicing with his sword so he can keep mama safe… :sob:

Second scene is when Locke brings the Phoenix to Rachel. You feel all of his guilt coming out, and man that crushed me.

My favorite first person are Doom games. I really enjoy the fast movement and amount of weapons without it being overwhelming.

I’ve never played the Red Dead games. I’ve heard I’m missing out terribly. I need to get them on my backlog list.

And yeah, FFVI has some pretty crazy stuff that can sneak up on you. Even from the beginning when dealing with Terra basically being a puppet, to Sabin/Edgar dealing with the health of their father and Sabin choosing to walk away, etc. Terra later not wanting to fight because the kids need here in that backwater town. Yeah, there’s a bunch of good stuff that pulls at the heart-strings.

I do some FPS. My buddies were huge into Halo. I can play, but they could play competitively. Ahh… There was no peak in gaming more than a Halo pre-post lobby voice chat. :joy: :joy: :joy:
I played a good amount of CoD, never cared for Battlefield that much. Medal of Honor was another great series.

I haven’t really enjoyed the newer Final Fantasy games since Final Fantasy X. The remakes of 7 are just ok and the games after X had a big drop-off IMO.

I’m guessing Sudoku doesn’t qualify for this thread.
Last game I actively played was WarHawk, semi addicted for years until it was destroyed by hackers.

I absolutely hate the FF7 remakes. It’s like they forced Kingdom Hearts and FF7 to have a kid and it came out with birth defects. I wish they would’ve just remade it faithfully and not re-imagined it. It’s pretty, but I just can’t get behind the story. And I’m with you. X was like the last good one for me. I did enjoy XVI and it felt more FF than most since X. Though a big part of me likeing XVI is how good Ben Starr played Clive. He’s such a talented voice actor.
