Where the gaming nerds at?

Any good recommendations for newer RPG games would be appreciated as I haven’t paid much attention to games after the sexy was replaced with not so attractive types. If I’m wasting time in a video game give me some eye candy.

It depends what you mean by ‘newer,’ but if you haven’t played Fallout 4, it’s a great RPG with a lot of different storylines. Made by Bethesda (the Skyrim people). Good emotional beats, lots of options on how to play and build your character. If you want to drop a ton of time, it’s a good bet!

I would say it’s also slightly more ‘friendly’ to get into than Baldur’s Gate 3 (which is also great). BG3 took some time to get used to, because the whole ‘turn based combat’ thing was new to me at the time for video games. It’s like post-apocalyptic Skyrim, if that helps…

Oh man. Another good one. Although once I upgraded archery to the point where I could shoot THROUGH SOLID OBJECTS it got almost too easy. Very fun game though, and if you are a nerd like me and like ancient greek stuff it is cool to run into some of the great (and terrible) greeks of history.

What do you think of Crimson Desert? The one thing that puts me off is the lack of story as I understand.

Im really looking forward to Phantom Blade Zero that comes out next month. Looks a little bit like Black Myth Wukong which I really enjoyed.

I love it. It’s like a less clunky/buggy Skyrim. There absolutely is a story that drives the game forward. Lots of main story quests and side quests as well.

GW3 is on the horizon. Project I ( working title) has some insane PvP and really impressive server performance for massive battles. Scars of Honor just announced they’re selecting players for a test team starting on the 24th of this month.

Riot is still planning a yet to be named title as well. Lots of future projects that are looking pretty promising.

Yeah Red Dead 2 is awesome. It hits all the right “western” notes for me. Detroit Become Human was a really good game as well.

Right now I’m replaying the Mass Effect trilogy. It’s kind of my “comfort” game that I play once a year. I’ll probably play Horizon: Forbidden West next.

Curious what you will think of it. I liked the first one and haven’t played Forbidden West yet since I had serious open world fatigue

If it’s a game that I know will take some time to beat, I have to work up to it. I like to play most of the side quests and not just run through the main story.

I used to be that way. Now if I focus too much on side quests I’ll never finish the game

I don’t know the majority of games that I play the side quests add to the game/story rather than detract from it. In a game like Skyrim though you can get lost in side quests and forget the main story although to be honest I thought the side quests were more interesting anyway.

I was wondering has anyone played Death Stranding here? It seems people either really like it or really dislike it.

A few years ago I got called an “old head” and not long after an “OG”…

I didn’t know what either meant, I assumed they thought I was old?

I believed OG meant “old gamer” or “original gamer” til my kids corrected me.

Anyway, I only play FPS games. Played a lot of them.

Currently play PUBG for BR, CoD MW 2019 for TDM/S&D/FFA/CTF, and Delta Force for extraction. There may be better options for each FPS game type but we are all rather old school and PUBG and CoDMW 2019 are great for custom matches at a LAN!

Interested in Hell Let Loose Vietnam and Wardogs. I’d love for a remaster of the original CoD and United Offensive(25 years later) because to this day they were the best CoD maps and it was without all the added BS in today’s games. Simple, straight forward FPS!

We usually do 1 LAN a year each fall. Several buddies will travel 30min-2.5 hours to go and a couple fly up from Southern states. We’ve been doing it since senior year of HS with a couple short dry spells in there where we took a couple-3 years off to be adults for a bit lol.

I don’t play games anymore. But I used to really love the Silent Hill games. I see those are making a comeback.

Some of my favorites in last 10+ years

  • Rocket League
  • Valheim
  • Balatro
  • Uboat
  • Risk: Global Domination (The board game on PC)
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Raft

The G.O.A.T - Chess.com

Looking forward to Crimson Desert and KCD II (In Steam library just haven’t played yet)

Oldie but goodie…..Dishonored (the first one). Incredibly unique gaming experience

That one is amazing! I loved how you could beat the whole game without ever killing, or you could murder 10,000 people. And it actually has an effect on the result!

I don’t consider myself a gamer nerd…especially when reading through this thread lol! I have no idea what a lot of the abbreviations are in reference to. But maybe I would like to check them out. It’s been 10+ years since I “gamed.” I do however rock old school games at work like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, and Sid Meier’s SimGolf when we are slow. Even once in a while break out Tecmo SB & Ken Griffey Baseball for the Super Nintendo and rock full seasons :joy:

But the games I enjoyed playing when I did:

Oblivion

COD Modern Warfare/Black Ops (online)

Fallout New Vegas (all-time Favorite)

Dead Island

NHL series up until about 2016ish

The Last of Us and #2. I quit when they made me play as the rival/villian. Couldn’t get into it. It was the last game I played of the modern genre.

I’ve been thinking of getting back into gaming. If I did, what system should I get into? PS4 was the last system I had.

Man Kingdom Hearts scarred me

I have a Down Syndrome brother and it’s his all-time favorite series. I spent a small fortune on buying/building a keyblade for him for his birthday. He was so excited for about 30 seconds when he opened it. He followed by being extremely disappointed when it didn’t possess magical powers :rofl::rofl:

Funny story…maybe 15ish years ago, he was playing The Thing, PS2 game based on the ~1985 movie…I played it in high school and it was really freaking hard. He asked me for help getting past a certain part that I had never seen before. That little ■■■■■■ made it further than I ever did in that game. The funniest part was, he was playing it INVERTED!!! He doesn’t play any other game that way. It was just the default setting and he ran with it. Despite having the mental capability of maybe 5-6 year old, he is elite at gaming. The mind can be a mysterious thing that’s for sure!

That is an awesome story @JD9 ! My wife works in special education, and some of the kiddoes she works with have astonishing skills as well. Cool stuff!
