I haven’t scouted one minute of the guy, so take this with the smallest grain of salt. We run 3 down lineman a lot. A lot of those snaps, go to Harrison in the middle, Flowers at RDE and depending if they go heavy or light, a Hand or Okwara. Kennard comes down into that to make the 4 man front A-LOT. So let’s start with formation. Hand was hurt this year, so you don’t know for sure that you can count on the guy. But if those 3 down lineman are often Flowers, Harrison and Hand, how much time is a Brown at 6’5 318 going to get right away?
From what I see, they aren’t going to sit the bulk of Harrison on most downs, nor Flowers. So unless Brown can play end a bunch, I think I’d rather go end replacing Okwara day one. If Young is in the draft, I probably go after him depending on where we land. Don’t give up the farm though. Trade down and take Gross-Matos if the price gets too steep.
Hand plays inside while Kennard drops down for a 4 man front quite a bit. He’s essentially our top 3t unless we resign Daniels and unless he gives us the homeyest of home town discounts, I don’t see that happening. You may want to sort of consider him as part of that DT rotation.
The Suh history was a lot different from our fans AND those around the league…than in THIS thread. vastly different. Lions fans couldn’t wait to get rid of him either , talking about what a POS he was for the STOMP HEARD AROUND THE WORLD. He was dirty, a cheat, caused us too many penalties , “stomp this/stomp that” from our fans as well , our fans calling for his head
remember? “The Lions are a dirty cheating team because we had Suh.” we ran him off by bitching and moaning about him WITH league-wide fan bases.
Watch the tape and see how much he’s on the turf. He’s another Robinson. If you watch Snacks, you see what a guy looks like competently taking on a double team. I don’t see that with Brown. If you leave him one on one, you want to see him beating his guy more.
Here, we play DTs at every possible DT position, including sometimes at DE. Brown looks like he would be ok as a 3-4 DE that also takes snaps like a 4-3 DT over a Guard. That’s just not worth a Top-5 pick unless he’s uniquely adept at pass-rushing. I don’t see it and Snags has done a great job of highlighting college production to make the point.
Seems we will be running nickel most of the time. I see brown being huge in that formation. He can disrupt the pocket. As well as if they have to double team snacks, as well as Brown thats 4 OL for 2 DL. There is no certainty that Robinson will be here after this year as well.
You have me confused with someone else when it comes to Harold Landry. But going to the question, Eli Harold is a poor man’s Harold Landry and we went out and got him and he had a place in the defense.
When it comes to Chase Young I’m not seeing what other people apparently see in him. But he looks comfortable dropping back in coverage so I’m going to say he fits.
It’s the hands for me. He doesn’t provide a good target for the lineman and then when they go to make their move he gets a quick chop in to keep clean. That’s what stands out to me anyway.
I expect Robinson to be gone myself.
They’ll definitely be adding DT help this year, I just don’t think it’s going to be a #5 pick on someone who looks like a slightly better Robinson.
I was wondering what else someone would want to see besides size, strength, speed, ability to move in space, instincts, awareness, pass rush moves, and production.
If you tell me someone is better than the Bosa boys, I want to see a guy who is better than the Bosa boys when I turn on the film. I’m not seeing it. So clearly there is something other people are seeing that I’m missing when I watch his film.
